Hello.

My name is Russell

I live in Brooklyn, New York but have no issues traveling if the job requires it. My full company's name is Subreference Studios llc. The reason for the name is a bit lost in time but I've had it for many years and don't plan to change it any time soon.

I've split this site up into short sections that I hope tell the story of who I am and what I do. At this point feel free to jump ahead but if you're more traditional about these things can you just download my resume in pdf format.

Who am I?

And what sort of stuff do I do?

I'm primarily a front-end technologist and mobile developer. Here's a short but incomplete list of the things I can do:

  • HTML5
  • Javascript
  • Jquery
  • CSS3
  • Appcelerator
  • PhoneGap
  • Wordpress
  • Concrete5
  • PHP
  • Ruby on Rails
  • LESS/SASS
  • Git

If you're thinking about working with me you should know I'm equally fine working on-site or remotely, by myself or with a group. I have good manners and communicate well.

Stuff I've done

And companies I've worked with

I've worked with large agencies, small creative shops and for myself. Here's a sampling of the projects I've done recently:

BlueZones Project
Primary front end developer responsible for overall html/css architecture and building of Ruby views. Worked with several back and front end developers on-site. Client: Roundarch isobar
Cinemax
Primary front end developer in charge of building the html templates and recommending and implementing front end technology. The "semi-liquid" layout was the big challenge with this project. Client: Roundarch isobar
ICRAVE
All the front end code and some of the Wordpress integration work. Client: Frank Collective
Cheers Everybody
Cheers Everybody is a phonegap/jquery project that lets you say cheers! in multiple languages. Client: Me
Ripe
This is an iphone app I built because I got tired of losing receipts before I could get them entered into my freshbooks.com account. Client: Me
Frank Collective
Agency website built using Concrete5. Which is a pretty great CMS and a wonderful learning experience. Client: Frank Collective
Bad Fortune Cookie
Just a random idea I had over drinks with a friend one happy hour. One weekend later we managed to get it submitted to the app store. Lots of laughs along the way. Client: Me
Harry's Blocks
Another quick weekend project, this is a basic grid of numbers and letters to help toddlers start counting. When you press the blocks a different sound plays and the block does a css3 animation. Designed for my 2 year old in mind.

Other things.

The social services I use

Here's some of the social stuff I use. It's not particularly important but it helps to know I'm real and do other things other than code. I also have a Facebook account but I rarely use it.
